Never forgotten and always in our hearts

Hi guys!

Danny and I have been on the go pretty much non-stop since my last post and I think we both are happy to see February go. The up and down weather has left us both battling sickness and the dreary days have surely worn out their welcome.

Danny continues to workout and throw to help him prepare for the upcoming baseball season. Hard to believe that opening day is a month away! Danny manages to juggle work, baseball training, job hunting, and house care. Those things keep him busy busy and at times, I find myself reminding him to take some time for himself and fit in some rest. I guess we are just little work-alcoholics, or as my Dad put it, decro-alcoholics. Eh, you catch my drift. ;o)

I started my NEW job this week and am loving every minute of it! My position is as an account executive at a small communications design firm. I am settling in nicely while familiarizing myself with programs and I have already completed the first part to a big scholarship project that I am working on. In addition to settling into my new job, I have continued to write for UWeekly, take on small projects around the house, and take care of the furry kidos.

Speaking of small projects, Danny decided to redo his closet this weekend, shelving and all. We also got a new sink for the bathroom (one I have liked for a while now) and Danny mentioned about getting it sooner rather than later, soooo wham bam.. we now have a new sink. The old one was pretty banged up, not properly put together and took up quite a bit more space. I think Danny has enjoyed taking on new, little handy projects around the house. He always grabs his little, red tool bag and is ready to go. I also finished up some painting in the upstairs hallway and organized our kitchen cabinets and linen closet. Although it was a very productive weekend for us, we agreed that it felt better to have it done and I know for me, now my main focus can be solely on my new job. Woohooo.

Last week was a bit of a whirlwind. Danny and I spent the last weekend of February in Cincinnati because my Grandpa Joe passed away on that Friday. It was good to be there to help with things and as a form of support for my Mom and family. That weekend, my immediate family and I went through a ton of old photos of my Grandpa. I then worked on a photo collage of my Grandpa Joe followed by my mom, sister, and I adding in special quotes, sayings, and items that made us think of my Grandpa. It meant the world to me that Danny was there with me as well. I told him he couldn't have been a better supporter and just how much I appreciated his care and love. Words can not begin to describe it. We came back to Columbus on Sunday and returned to Cincy Wednesday night for the visitation and funeral. Wednesday night went as well as it could of. The turnout and loving support at the funeral home was huge and the number of flowers sent was crazy. It became easily apparent just how special and loved my Grandpa was.

Thursday began early as we all went to the funeral home to say our goodbyes. The minister who spoke did an exceptional job and following our goodbyes, the men in my family carried out my Grandpa's casket. It was such an emotional, yet indescribable, moment to witness. We then followed my Grandpa to the cemetery. At the cemetery they had two soldiers remove the flag from the casket, fold it, and present it to my Grandma. It was a special moment that I will never forget. My Grandpa Joe will continue to be one of the hardest working men I know. He walked everywhere and when my Mom was younger, he would walk blocks, and at times through poor weather conditions, to get to work. My Grandpa Joe was a good example of what we have sort of lost in todays society: good old fashioned manual labor and doing whatever you have to do to support your family. My Grandpa Joe showed me that sometimes you have to remember what truly counts in life and get back to the basics. My Grandpa will truly be missed, never forgotten, and forever hold a special place in my heart. I love and miss you, Grandpa!

Danny and I both have recently experienced the loss of our first Grandparent. It is a new and unfamiliar experience for us both, and boy oh boy it isn't easy. We will never forget them, continue to remember fond memories with them, and celebrate how truly special they were.

We love you Nana and Grandpa!! It is comforting to know that you are at peace in a beautiful place and try your best to stay out of mischief until we meet again. <3

We can't forget our strong, beautiful Mothers as well. It surely hasn't been an easy time for either of them. Words can't describe how much we admire both of our Mother's HUGE hearts and never-ending love for their families. Much love for both of our Mothers!

Love,

Sarah and Danny

What a tease...

Welp after a week of sun and 50 degree weather..looks like it is back to rain, sleet and more snow. Grr. Sunny days will hopefully be here to stay very soon. Fingers crossed. :)

Not too much to report on our end. Danny continues to get ready and in shape for the upcoming baseball season while also working hard and putting in long hours at work. He manages to juggle both, although at times I am not sure how he does it (or finds the time to sleep). He's one busy kid, that's for darn sure!!

I am excited to share that after blasting off more resumes than I can count, and a fair number of phone and face-to-face interviews, I have FINALLY landed a new job that I am very excited about! I was flattered (and thrilled) to be called back for a second interview for a company that I really began to like more and more each day. My second interview was over lunch. I have never done an interview over lunch before, but I gotta admit, it was sort of a refreshing change and I enjoyed it. After the second interview I was told that they would let me know their decision by the following Friday. Welp, Friday morning arrived, and I was just about to begin my follow-up email, when I got the call inviting me to join their team! I couldn't be happier and am super excited for this new journey and chapter in my life. This seems like a great chance to grow as a young adult, prove myself, and work towards greater, and bigger, things in the future. This job will also allow me to get back to doing what I am passionate about and majored in at OSU. Wish me luck. ;)

I also have been busy sewing lately. Trying to find certain things to suite your taste and incorproate into your home is hard to do sometimes (and expensive too)! I don't mind sewing, so I began looking at fabrics (with Danny's help) and making my own pillows for the living room. I kind of think that I may do the same with curtains. Instead of looking and looking for something I sort of like, why not find a fabric that I really like, and make them myself?

I'll leave you with a few pictures that I hope you enjoy...

Ice, ice babyyy..

This ice storm is just nuts. Its crazy driving at night and seeing the lights reflect off of these huge sheets of ice. I really need to grab my camera and take some snap shots. We were very lucky that our electricity only went out for a sort time during the night. I know they said that thousands of people were without. I guess if that was ever us, we would have to put our small, furry heaters to good use. They sure do keep you toasty. :)

Nothing too terribly crazy and exciting on our end. Last weekend we enjoyed dinner with Bill and Jamie and then met up with friends for Karaoke. I got to belt out an old Britney Spears classic on stage with the girls, which was fun. It was really nice to try out a new bar and enjoy some time with our friends. Pretty hard to go wrong with Karaoke I must say.

Danny has been continuing to get in shape and prepare for Baseball season each Wednesday, while I have begun writing for a newspaper again. My first article was published today actually and can be read at UWeekly.com. It's great to be writing again and getting the opportunity to come up with my own ideas and just be creative. I love it.

I don't really have too much more to add. Just taking things day by day and excited that the groundhog predicted an early Spring, I think I read? How amazing does sunshine, flip flops and grilling out sound right about now?

I'll leave you with a picture that always makes me smile... enjoy!

Love and miss you all,

Our New & Improved Living Room..

Danny and I recently painted our living room. We were going to wait but the more we talked about the color (icky mustard yellow) it became a done deal that this color did not suit either of us. Our living room gets minimal light, and since we spend most of our time in this room, choosing a bright, cheery color was important to us. We hope you like the colors as much as we do..

First Blog Post of the New Year!

Hi all!

A lot has gone on since the last post. The last month of the year was a crazy, fun one.

Danny came home with me and celebrated Christmas with my family and I. It was a jam packed weekend filled with lots of gifts, food, and laughter. It was great to have him and I know my family loved having him there too. We both were spoiled and got a lot of nice things. I know Danny enjoyed opening gifts from his parents and I loved the thoughtfulness that Danny put into each of his gifts for me. In addition to the festivities we made some time to play lots of Mario Cart on Wii (photo below). One of the gifts I got for Danny. On Sunday Danny and I went to lunch with a bunch of my high school friends. It was so nice to see and catch up with all of them (second photo)!

The Tuesday after Christmas Danny's parents came up to visit. We decided it would be fun to cook them a Christmas dinner. The four of us enjoyed a good home cooked meal of: grilled ham, green bean casserole, corn, mashed potatoes, rolls and cookies. With good food came good conversation. We enjoyed hearing all about his parent's trip and adventures. So happy they had a good time! On Wednesday night I was able to meet up and join Danny and his parents for some dinner and drinks at The Cheesecake Factory. So happy they made the trip and we got to spend time with them.

Danny and I rang in the New Year with the Nickleys and some friends. It was nice to finally meet their pups, especially the newest edition, Hulk, and see their beautiful home. It was a fun evening of drinks, games, food, and friends. I couldn't think of a better way to ring in a New Year!

The Sunday after New Years we decided to make a trip to Lowe's and get supplies for some projects we've been wanting to do around the house. Danny redid our shower. Rechaulking it and taking off the doors. We love it. I finally painted our back door (goodbye icky blue) and began painting our living room. Neither of us have been a fan of the color the previous owner had picked out. Can't say mustard yellow is exactly our color. The new color I chose is a relaxing bluish/gray. I love the blues, grays, browns and creams in the room. They are very happy and bright colors.

I hope you all like the addition of music to our blog. I really like Taylor Swift and this song reminds me of my Danny. :o)

Eggnog, Wii, & Burgers the Size of your Head..

Hi All! Life has been busy as always and this holiday season is no exception. Hard to believe that winter and the holidays are in full swing. Are we really about to ring in 2011? Craziness.

Danny and I have been busy winterizing the house and getting ready for the winter weather. We're excited that we finally have our very own backyard and will be able to play in the snow and build snowmen or better yet, snowdogs! lol.

This past weekend Danny's parents came to visit and celebrate Danny's birthday. Luckily the weather was not freezing and the snow had not arrived just yet, making it the ideal day to have company and enjoy Columbus. We all ran to the grocery so Danny and his Dad could pick up what they needed for homemade eggnog (Danny's Great Grandfather, Dale's, recipe). We stopped on the way home to place our name on the list at Thurman's and also stopped by the Book Loft, a popular, unique place located in German Village. We arrived home and Bill & Danny got crackin'. The kitchen quickly turned into an eggnog making extravaganza! lol. I have never seen eggnog made before so it was a fun, new experience for me. After relaxing for a bit, it was off to Thurman's so the Barker's could experience their first Terminator!

The four of us ended up with the best seat in the house and Danny and his Dad decided to get the Terminator Burger. The four of us enjoyed some conversation over drinks and our tastey Thurman burgers. After Thurman's we headed a few doors down to Easy Street Cafe. We sat at the bar and enjoyed a few more drinks before heading home to play Wii!

The Barker's bought us a WII and we have been getting good use out it so far, especially considering we've only had it five days lol. The four of us tried some new games. I think we all really enjoyed the 100 pin bowling and the 3 point shootout contest. Some of the games seemed almost impossible and I think may require a bit more practice (cough Frisbee and Canoeing cough). lol. After a fun evening of WII, Sandy and Bill decided to spend the night and crash in our guest room. We were so happy to have them and had so much fun spending the time with them! We look forward to seeing pictures from their upcoming Christmas cruise! :)

Danny and I are happy to say that we have gotten our toys for the Ronald McDonald House. We got a nice assortment of boy and girl toys for the kiddies. Our plan is to drop them off either today or tomorrow. We are happy to be giving back, in someway, this holiday season.

I hope everyone is staying warm and their holiday shopping, and year, are winding down nicely. Take care & bundle up!

With Love,

Danny & Sarah
